The appointment of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ernst Gaber to the Technical University of Karlsruhe in 1921 marked the start of the Gaber test room, which later became the Research Centre for Steel, Timber and Masonry. Today, the Research Centre is part of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and is divided into two departments with chairs of the same name:
