In the past, DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 has developed into a standard for testing laboratories. This standard places high demands on testing laboratories in terms of expertise and testing quality. In many countries, it is already a legal requirement that tests in legally regulated areas are carried out by accredited testing laboratories. This development has long since reached Europe.

In the national area, KIT Timber Structures and Building Construction is a recognised test centre for the issue of general building law test certificates (abP) in accordance with state building regulations.
